Jacob Cutter's grave photographed on 27th Sep.
1927.
by Mrs Eileen Lamotte
The grave was on Glenrock the property
owned by his father at that time at Brisbane Water.
Jacob was 13 years and 3 months when he
died
on Saturday 24th April, 1880.
He was kicked in the knee by a horse when
he was 9 years old when the
family was living in the Goulbourn area of
NSW.
His health deteriorated rapidly just prior
to his death, the injury turning into spinal decay.
His father, James, built the coffin and Jacob
was laid to rest in a bush grave on Glenrock.
His father imported a white marble slab from
Italy on which he engraved the inscription himself.
The inscription is in a combination of Latin
and Pitman shorthand.
The inscription reads as follows:
"To thee, O
very dear Jacob Cutter, this monument is dedicated by your most loving
father ...
Not without
hope that we may meet again in the Divine Assembly of Souls".
From an article in the Central Coast Herald Saturday April 26, 2003 by
Paul Callaghan
The area has now been subdivided and is a built-up area with many
houses.
The original grave site is just north of the Koolewong railway station.
The monument has been long gone but the marble slab with the
inscription
is now
at the Brisbane Water Historical Society's Henry Kendall's Cottage
at West Gosford.
