Friday 12 June 1914

On Wednesday John Edward Croxford  of The Avenue, Windsor disappeared while swimming at
Sandringham.

He was an Auctioneer. Aged 43. A native of Violet Town. Husband of Adriah Mary Croxford and
father of 11 children, the youngest being 4 years old. Brother of Mr Croxford of Goomalibee.

The brother was possibly William Arthur Croxford

But oral family history says he later returned posing as an uncle. Fact or fiction?
His movements and whereabouts after this were a mystery, as was his death date and death location. 

Recently (14th March, 2011) with research from GraveSecrets we have discovered that he actually died at Parramatta, Sydney, NSW on the
11th March, 1926 under the name of James E Croxford. He is buried with his wife Adria and daughter, Lois Maud in the Dudley Park cemetery, South Australia. It would appear that Adria learned of his death (how is unknown) and brought his remains to Adelaide.

John married Adriah Mary PERRY  daughter of Jonathan PERRY and Lois GERMAN in 1891 in Violet Town  Victoria  Australia. Adriah was born about 1870 in Leicester  England. She died on 21 Apr 1938 in Prospect  Adelaide  South Australia  Australia.

Private CROXFORD was the son of John Edward and Adriah Mary Croxford (nee
Perry), of "Belgrave," Dandenong Rd., Murrumbeena, Victoria. Native of Boho,
Victoria.

Remembered with honour YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, Ieper, West-
Vlaanderen, Belgium.  The memorial is situated at the eastern side of the town on
the road to Menin and Courtral and bears the names of men who were lost without
trace during the defence of Ypres in the First World War.
