DAVIS - MORGAN surname
It would appear that many of the DAVIS children were baptised as
MORGANs at St Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church in Geelong
over the period 1853 to 1862.
From the comparison table below, the coincidences of the birth of
children named DAVIS from birth certificates and the baptism of
apparently same children as MORGAN, is very strong.
Eight of the eleven children appear to fit into this category,
giving rise to it being highly probable that it is true.
In all but one case the mother's name is given as Catherine MONAGHAN
(or variation of that name). Once it appears as Catherine MULLIGAN
but no records have been found of a MULLIGAN marrying a MORGAN (or
DAVIS) or issue from that pair.
The reason for these baptisms as MORGAN is as yet unknown and the
solving of this mystery may never occur as after 1862 all references
to members of this family has them as DAVIS not MORGAN.
